Zappos Welcomes Dogs Into the Workplace

Zappos, the well-known online shoe and clothing company, with headquarters in Downtown Las Vegas, has made a lot of changes this year. The largest change being that they incorporated a new management system called holacracy. In fact, there’s no management system. Zappos employees manage themselves under the holacracy method.

Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, has always encouraged innovation and change, and holacracy was the next step for them. Incorporating fun and a little weirdness into the workplace is one of their core values, and now it’s probably more fun than ever now that employees can bring in their dogs to hang out with them at the workplace.

Back when there were managers, allowing dogs at their desks would not have been possible without problems in human resources, legal, and safety departments.

Zappos employee Tyler Williams began the dog welcoming. “I was able to begin opening particular places around the campus for dogs by polling the areas for allergies/fears, and developing best practices around employees bringing their dogs,” he said. “Since I have no actual dog expertise, I worked with Hydrant Club downtown to assess the dogs prior to coming on campus.”

With the Downtown Project, a collaborative revitalization effort for downtown Las Vegas, many run down buildings transformed into the bustling restaurants and shops that we enjoy today, including the renovation of Gold Spike, and our own humble Oasis hotel. Combined, Gold Spike and Oasis offer over 160 unique boutique rooms, bar and grill, pool, and room service.

Oasis at Gold Spike is now booking rooms fast for the New Year’s Eve Downtown Countdown event, so be sure to see our rates and book an experience at a boutique hotel in downtown Las Vegas that you can’t experience anywhere else.
